Our Tripod Reviews Will Help You Find the Best Tripod for DSLR Photography or For Shooting DSLR Video

When you move up from a point-and-shoot digital camera to a DSLR, you need a new tripod that can handle the extra weight and you need a tripod head that will allow you to take the type of photos you want to take.

That’s right. Most of the more professional tripods do not come with the tripod head attached.

The manufacturers know that once you step up to a digital SLR camera, you’re probably starting to specialize in certain types of photography (like landscapes, portraits, action, etc.), so they offer you specialized tripod heads.

Photographers everywhere are buzzing about carbon fiber tripods and for good reason. Carbon fiber tripods are lighter, are as strong or stronger and often are subject to less vibration that conventional aluminum tripods and composite tripods.

Of course, investing in a carbon fiber tripod will cost you a little more money (but hey, it may save you a few trips to the chiropractor).

What Causes a Tripod to be the Best Tripod for DSLR Shooters?

Whether you’ve realized that your photography will improve when you start shooting from a tripod, there are several things to consider to find the best tripod for you:

  • Look for a tripod that is built to last. Like lenses, your tripod is an investment.
  • Consider how far and how often you’ll be carrying your tripod. If you’re going to be carrying your tripod a lot, seriously consider carbon fiber or keep your masseuse on speed-dial.
  • Maximum and minimum height – get a tripod that will allow you to shoot low if need to and tall enough for you if you drank a lot of milk as a kid.
  • Go for quality because cheap tripods will make you want to pull your hair out as they “creep” out of position or shake in the wind like a skinny kid with hypothermia.

As you can tell, I’m a big fan of Manfrotto tripods and heads. I use them and love them. You can find them here on Amazon: Manfrotto Tripods.

We try to keep our focus on tripods that meet those criteria so we can find the best tripod for DSLR shooters like you. Let us know if you want to see a certain tripod reviewed. If you have a favorite tripod, we’d love to hear what you think about it in either a video or a short article.

When you find and start using the best tripod for DSLR photography, you’ll start to notice a big difference in your photos.
